Which Munchkin Products are BPA and PVC Free?

Thanks for the Munchkin info! Do you have any info on the safety of Fisher-Price products? I have searched and searched and come up empty handed. I called the FP company and was told that no one there could tell me what kind of plastics are used in their baby products. I was astounded! I decided to return all of the Fisher-Price products that I received from my baby showers. I hated to do it, but I’d rather be safe than sorry when it comes to my baby’s safety.

I am pleased to tell you that our products at BABISIL are toxin free ( that’s Phthalate and Bisphenol-A free)!

We have both the ‘Flexible Feeding Range’ (training spoon, mini suction mat and soft and squidgy silicone mu bib) and ‘Second to Breast’ baby Silbottle (bottle with collapsible silicone inner chamber – also designed to help with colic) and accessories.

Please let us know about Fisher-Price. They dominate the toy market, and my kid is turning one in about 2 weeks! It is hard convincing family members that I am not high maintenance, just concerned for my child’s health. And my kid puts everything in his mouth. I would love to have proof for friends and family that FP’s(and other companies) products are harmful. Or better yet, I would love to hear that some of FP’s products are safe!

I wish we could help you there, but Fisher-Price will not disclose any of their material lists. They claim to be “proprietary” in order not to have to share the info with concerned parents.

Your best bet at this point is to avoid all Fisher Prices products.

I just found your web site. It is so helpful! Thank you.

I downloaded the PDF that you linked to on the munchkin site because I recently bought their safety spoons for my daughter. Currently all of the feeding accessories, including these spoons, are listed as BPA free. I’m confused because that’s not what you said you found when you looked at the list a couple weeks ago. Do you have an old copy of the PDF? What’s going on here?

The Safety Spoons are BPA free, they just aren’t PVC free. We try to help parents avoid PVC in feeding gear too, as it is also toxic, but for different reasons than BPA.

On the above Munchkin pdf, it lists alot of other materials that are used in their products. Are these materials safe? I’m referring to polypropylene, polyethylene, polycarbonate, thermoplastic elastomer, ammonia polyacrylate, propylenglycol, Kathon CG preservative, polycarbonate, Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, phthalate-free polyvinyl chloride. Thank you for the compliment on our website!

Those are great questions. We’ve found that the following ingredients do not contain toxic chemicals:

1) polypropylene
2) polyethelyene
3) thermoplastic elastomer
4) acrylonitrile butadiene styrene

You should avoid the following:

1) polycarbonate (contains bisphenol-a)
2) phthalate-free polyvinyl chloride

We haven’t researched the following:

1) ammonia polyacrylate
2) propylenglycol
3) Kathon CG preservative

disturbed that i did not contact your web site sooner as my daughter used the nuk trainer cup for almost a year . I hope she will not suffer any consequences.

Gerber Soft Bite spoons
Gerber Bunch a Bowls
Munchkin Soft Tip Infant Spoon 6 pack (package says BPA free)
I called both Gerber and Munchkin…..Gerber said the Soft Bite spoons are stainless steel and silicone and confirmed they are BPA/PVC free. The bowls are #5 (made in America, yay) and polypropylene with a food-grade dye, also BPA/PVC free.
Munchkin told me their spoons are polypropylene and BPA/PVC free too.
I feel like I left something out – did I forget to ask them anything? Would you say these are a safe choice?

Hey. I read on Munchkin’s website that ALL of their products are now phthalate free and they are phasing out BPA this year.
