Updated Nuby Info: Favorite Sippy Cups Now BPA Free

UPDATED 1/8/09

Nuby just contacted us with a list of some all-time favorite cups that have been redesigned to be BPA-free.  This is exciting news for many parents who rely on Nuby’s affordable sippy cups!

The following cups will be available in the U.S. this month (Jan. 2009).  Please be aware that many retailers will have to sell through their current inventory before offering the new BPA-free version, so double-check before purchasing.

UPDATE 1/8/09:  We just spoke with Nuby about identifying which version is on the store shelf.  They told us that the new cup packaging will be labeled as BPA-free to help save confusion.

Will there be markings on the package to indicate that the cups are BPA-free? If not, are there any distinguishing characteristics you can describe to help us determine whether we are getting the new product? Thank you!

    Hi Erika,

That’s a great question, and one that we’ve already asked Nuby about – we’re just waiting to find out now. I’ll update this post as soon as I hear back.

My hunch is that they will label the new products as BPA-free, because they’re already in the process of doing so with many of their other products (like the Hot Safe Spoons).

    That’s great to hear!

I wasn’t sure where to post this, but I have been emailing every company who’s toy my son owns. And I definitely have to put in a bad word for Fisher Price who is the only one who has not contacted me. And of course I own mainly Fisher Price stuff. Oh well. All I can tell everyone is not to buy Fisher Price items since they obviously don’t care what our children are playing with!

But I wanted to let everyone know that The First Years (Learning Curve), Kids II, Manhattan Toy, Graco, and Baby Einstein have all been very cooperative and helpful in letting you know which items/toys you own are BPA, PVC, and phthalate free. Just email them. They always have a “contact us” choice on their websites.
