The Safe Sippy: The Ultimate Fusion of the Sippy & the Straw Bottle

The Safe Sippy breaks the mold of the typical toddler cups currently available. Its design takes the best aspects of safe sippy cups and straw bottles and blends them together to form a new frontier in safer  feeding gear.

The design is so new and different, that we contacted the makers of The Safe Sippy with questions we’ve received from parents who are excited to try it. Here is the helpful information they gave us:

Q. Is it a standard straw bottle?

A. It is not a standard straw bottle. It is a true sippy cup with a “straw-like” spout.

Q. Is it leak proof?

A. The Safe Sippy is not completely leak proof. That is to say, if you turn it upside down and shake it, water will drip out. But it has a no-spill valve inside the cap, so if the cup is knocked over by a child, water is not going to come pouring out. You may get a drop or two; if you didn’t, a child wouldn’t be able to get liquid out either.

Q. Is the spout hard or soft?

A. The spout is hard. That is because of the plastic we use – polypropelene. PP is harder than plastics that contain things like Bisphenol A.

We only have to wait another week or two to see how it works for ourselves! We’ll keep you updated on when it arrives.

UPDATE: We’ve finally had a chance to test out The Safe Sippy, so here are a few tips:

  • The sleeve is a wonderful invention and does an excellent job of insulating little hands from cold and warm liquids
  • The combination of stainless steel along with the protective sleeve creates the most durable, ding-free cup available on the market
  • The stainless steel threads make it rather easy to screw the lid on cockeyed, so be careful to get it on straight
  • Don’t fill the cup past the lowest thread line, as this may cause the cup to leak between the lid and handles; also be sure to screw the lid on nice and tight to help seal the threads completely
  • The cup valve is leak-resistant not spill-proof, so it does leak if you shake it

My friend is involved with the company and brought me a sample of the new and improved version on the way this month and they have solved the screwtop threading issues. So no more leakage out the sides.
