Dear Brita: Please Bring Glass Water Filter Pitchers to the U.S.

An article about whether Brita water pitchers are made from safer plastic has remained our second most popular since the day we hit publish back at the beginning of 2008.  Interestingly, 75% of incoming readers found it by googling the terms “glass water filter pitcher.”

We’ve been keeping our eyes open, patiently waiting for an affordable glass pitcher with a built-in water filter to become available.   So far, no luck.  I just checked in with Brita again today to inquire about plans to bring the Edition Premium Glass Water Filter Jug they’re currently selling in the U.K. to the U.S. and it looks like we’ll be waiting . . . indefinitely :(

While we feel good about the non-leaching stability of the plastic used in Brita’s standard pitchers, we’d really love the option of a glass version.  How about you?  Are we asking for something the U.S. market won’t support?  Make your voice heard by voting in the poll below and we’ll see!

Should Brita bring their glass filter pitcher to the United States?

Thanks for doing this? I was just looking today for personal blenders with a glass cup – come across any of those? I found ONE that was made for European plugs – not so useful… Thanks!

Glass should be available here, absolutely. But, I probably won’t buy one.
What with triclosan, perchlorate, pharmaceutical drugs, heavy metals, factory “farm” runoff, etc., etc. in drinking water, Brita’s just not enough. It’s just giving me the illlusion I’m doing something. We’ve finally decided to bite the bullet and are researching reverse osmosis and distilling.
God (or other deity or not) help us all.

This would be ideal for us, as we have well water and our only concerns in the area we have are lead (older house with old pipes) and certain concentrations of minerals, which a Brita filter will handle.

I have been searching for years for a glass water pitcher. Thanks for initiating this ….

Did they mention *why* they won’t sell it here? At least by mail-order, sheesh.

why can’t you just use any glass pitcher like an old coffee carafe? the filter just sits there in the brita holder. just make sure it’s upright and it should do the trick.

Oh, yeah like that would work…

tried it but the filter makes a seal- so water can’t drain through (air can’t get out)

Why can’t Brita make this glass filter with stainless steel rings and sell it in the USA?

    • http://thesoftlanding.com Alicia

Hi Roycamper – we were told by Brita that there is almost no demand for it here in the USA. We need to let me know we ARE interested!

I tried ordering the glass version from Amazon UK, but they won’t ship to the U.S. Very frustrating! I don’t feel good about my kids drinking water out of plastic at all and really don’t know what to do about it.

Hi Sharon – oh darn! They told us they would ship to the U.S. We need to get on Brita about this and let them know we Americans want access to a glass version.

If Brita are selling glass filter jugs / pitchers in the UK, I can’t find one! I’ve been filtering the water and pouring it straight into 4 glasses lined up in the fridge. That will have to do.

Hi – having just watched the Plastic Planet doc, I am now disinclined to use my plastic Britta, as it seems all plastics leach to some degree. I’m curious about the glass one but, as far as I can tell, the water still trickles through a plastic filter. Anyone know about a filter system that’s not plastic in any way?

I’m curious about the glass one but, as far as I can tell, the water still trickles through a plastic filtration cartdridge. Anyone know about a filter system that’s not plastic in any way?

I just wrote Brita an email. I wonder what they will answer. The water filter in the UK through Amazon is not available for now. How is it that there are not any other companies working on this?? Please at least let Brita know you are interested.
